Italy Vs Uruguay - FIFA World Cup 2014 Post-Match Analysis

Referee making way for Uruguay; Disgrace to Football, Luis Suarez

Tonight we have witnessed some of the worst refereeing you had ever seen but the Luis Suarez Biting overshadowed everything. First Half ended without any netting of the ball & 2nd Half was full of weirdness. The U-Turn of the match was harshly given Red card to Claudio Marchisio after that game was pressed to one direction only

Uruguay had the best chances of the game. In the first half, Gianluigi Buffon kept his nation in the game with a double save – the first to deny Luis Suarez before getting to his feet to stop Nicolas Lodeiro from close range. In the second half, Cristian Rodriguez played a nice one-two with Suarez before firing wide.

That Cunning and Disgraceful act by Luis Suarez

The Liverpool striker appeared to bite Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder off the ball, with the Juventus defender swinging an elbow in retaliation – quite understandably so – that missed Suarez. The referee; however, missed the incident – as did the assistant referees. It’s certainly something that could be punished after the event – and possibly ending his World Cup.

So Uruguay, controversially, will head into the World Cup round of 16 as Italy exit the competition. Whether that is with or without Luis Suarez remains to be seen – but as shown against Costa Rica, his absence could be a huge blow to Uruguay’s chances of making the quarter-finals.

Match Statistics:

Maint Events of the Match:

  • Cesare Prandelli's tactics backfire
  • Lack of Discipline Kills Italy
  • Luis Suarez strikes again, but not as you'd expect
  • Edinson the Invisible

Man of the Match:

No one had a particularly wonderful game, but Diego Godin came through for his nation in the clutch and rightfully deserves the honor.

Flop of the Match:

One would be inclined to give it Suarez for his lack of sportsmanship, but Marchisio gets it for what cannot be described as anything but a stupid red card. Who in their right minds delivers a kick into the leg of a opposing player right in front of the referee? It cost his team the game.
